KUTU (Haleluya Tekletsadik) - Dantada [Live Version]

KUTU take us to Addis Ababa with “Dantada”

The Franco-Ethiopian trio, after an eventful tour, finally delivers its first single.

After an eventful French and East African tour, the band returns with their first official single “Dantada”. The track dives into the feverish streets of underground Addis Ababa, combining “electro-cosmic keyboards, hypnotic bass and stellar vocals” for “an incandescent ethio-trance, where the freedom of jazz blends with the raw depth of Azmarian sounds.” Haleluya Tekletsadik, who wrote, composed and performed the track, pays tribute to free and generous people, having herself grown up in a Somali neighbourhood of the Ethiopian capital.

“Put henna on my arms / let the incense burn / let me wear your dresses / I want to eat your food and dance this Dantada dance.”

KUTU is a Franco-Ethiopian supergroup born from the meeting in Addis Ababa of French musician Théo Ceccaldi and Ethiopian singers Haleluya Tekletsadik and Hewan Gebrewold. The trio’s first album, recorded between Addis Ababa and Paris, will be released in 2022.

Listen to “Dantada” in our Songs of the Week playlist on Spotify and Deezer.
